Ray pointed me to a previous discussion on another list: http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-mtd/2001-September/003125.html where the author said that the 28F320B3 (which is the chip on the CDB89712, or at least, on the ones i have) is _not_ CFI compliant, but JEDEC.
