You'd better use 2.4.17-rmk2, there were many bugs fixed in the mean

Don't use blob-1.0.8-pre2 when porting to a new board. Blob-2.0.5-pre2
is much easier to port (it already supports 12 architectures) and has
many new features (being able to write the flash is the probably most
important for you).

That ramdisk doesn't work for you because it uses the new ttySA*
devices and your kernel still uses the old ttyS* devices.
