Yes, but it sounds like the bug is actually in egcs.  Glibc has no business 
running any version of ranlib on libgcc.a and for most people it would fail 
anyway since only root can touch this file.

I think what happens is that egcs gets it wrong (gcc does have a pretty mixed 
up view of cross compiling in some ways) and the first time you notice is when 
building glibc.

But yes, whichever package it turns out to me, I'm probably included in the 
infamous "they". :-)
