Bingo !

1st try: as reported (with CF)
2nd try: removed CF, it worked !
3rd try: added CF again, it worked too !
4th try: tried my own kernel (built with gcc-2.95), and even that one
         worked.

Tried a few more things, including booting a CF-based system, and it still
works. Of course my current kernel isn't the same version that failed
before, so maybe it's related to the kernel size or the location of some
data. Very odd.
