Zobler employed a grungy plug-in and
a simple Pro Tools move recently with
Sálin, a band he mixed in Iceland. Using
Digidesign's D-Fi and five
cut-and-pastes he turned the echo taps
of a vocal part into something more
sonically appealing. "Bit-reduction
plug-ins are cool when you want
something nasty," he continues. "We
lowered the bit depth progressively
every time the echo repeated until it got
down to like four bits and was just this
nasty clicking noise bottoming out."
