hello everybody ! i'm currently doing another update of the lad pages, splitting up a few of the large pages into more browsable chunks. you can see a preview at http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad_new/ please review especially the list description on the "home" page. especially the section about closed-source software may raise controversial opinions (i remember pbd's recent rant...:). consider it only as a draft and post improvements or comments. major changes are: * former links page now split into many resurces pages. * new front page with more extensive list description. * extra news page. * the "misc software by lad contributors" section has now been renamed "member portraits". while not going into ample descriptions of everbody's character traits here, i'd like to add links to the individuals' home pages to give it a more personal atmosphere. while still focusing on code contributions, i have also added documentation efforts: http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad_new/resourcesmembers.php3 . * the search form has been fixed. * new sections and subsections can easily be added. still to do: * throrough testing of links and validation of the generated html code. * i would like to add a section about music "created with linux". if you have some particularly nice pieces of yours that you would like to see as advertisements for linux audio capabilities, please sent me pointers. * rescale and polish lad logo. * hack up a nice way to display news items. * add "link us" button. * the counter still breaks from time to time (i guess when multiple accesses collide). the whole concept is exceptionally dirty, since i use plain files to store the counts :( any suggested fixes ? (no, i can't easily use a database, since i have only ftp access to the server.) * add a www form to submit news items. * split the content from the navbar sections, and add a "all in one page" for off-line-readers. (benno, is this ok wrt to server load ?) * split "history" into subpages and find a better title. * maybe pre-compile the html pages except for the real dynamic content to speed things up in reduce server load (is this what ZEND does ?). currently, even the navbars are created on-the-fly even if they don't change between edits. as always, i appreciate additions or notifications about broken links or other oddities. regards, jörn -- Jörn Nettingsmeier home://Kurfürstenstr.49.45138.Essen.Germany phone://+49.201.491621 http://www.folkwang.uni-essen.de/~nettings/
