while i look for the malloc/pointer walk problem, i embarked on an
even more ambitious code rearrangement.

if quasimodo can be a plugin to the AudioEngine API, why can't ardour?

we've discussed something like this on LAD for a long time, and i've
finally gotten around to it. "aes" (Audio Engine Server) is a
standalone (GTK) program that will load ardour, quasimodo and perhaps,
soon, soundtracker as "plugins". ardour itself will become an alias
or shell script for something like "aes --load ardour".
