If you are using reiserfs with the 2.4.x kernels, you may have a problem
with tail-merging.  The 2.4.3 kernel is believed to have all the fixes
(with the exception of NFS handling).  The 2.2.x patches are solid for all
the latest kernel version.

One testing option: mount your file system with -notail and see if you
still have the problem with you app.
