Look, you have two options. Either your API does provide the level of control that some programs need (integrated, not as a 'control panel'), or it does not. In the first case you will have to live with the fact that anyone can use or abuse the API whether you like it or not, and no amount of lecturing people who *do* know what they are doing is going to help you with that. In the second case your API is deficient and unusable for certain applications, and you will have to live with the fact that some people will tell you and the rest of the world that this the case.
