I added a section here. http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/.asoundrc#Joining_devices_to_make_multichannel My code is derived from the documentation of multi plugin found here http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/alsa-lib/pcm_plugins.html except instead of defining separate route and multi plugins, I nest all the plugin defs so that only one set of $CARD,$DEV,$SUBDEV parameters are required.
