Googletalk's homepage says that it requires Wndows XP/Vista? I am no Stallmanista, but I just do not have a legit copy of either, and even if I had had, it wouldn't help at the other end of the (Mac) connection.
It's an eMac with no known Linux drivers for the (fake) network card available. So advocating a conversion from a Mac/Photoshop combo to Linux/GIMP would leave her dead in the water regarding Internet. Well well, all that was asked for was somewhere to register a SIP connection without a lot of to do.
