Aside from that, we have to forget about everything that has anything to do with GTK+. None of what you look forward to is even remotely possible with the examples and advice given so far (I mean just one look at libphat is..urghhh just another gtk design).
Flashy and elegant is Qt's forte, because LMMS has done it. Your resulting app can be simple, good-looking, skinnable.
