This would be the closest starting point. Might even be enough for my own use, but it seems, from the compile errors, the alsa api has changed. The web page also gives some good tips on running it as a user. The last date on the web page is 2007, has the alsa interface changed since then?
Anyway, this code looks like the best place yet to start from. actkbd will have any bits missing on the kbd end and the alsa docs should have the rest.
