Hello all,

Anyone familiar with Scala files ?

After reading <https://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/scl_format.html>
one questions remains.

For scales with 12 notes in an octave, to which note does the
first (implicit ratio 1.0) pitch refer ?

I assume this is C, not A.

you assume correctly. At least that is what the scala reference implementation does [1]. Though one can specify or override this in a .kbm file[2].

The example there shows middle C (MIDI note 60) as root note, and uses A 440 as reference pitch.
