I had all the LADSPA paths listed twice.
josef:~$ echo $LADSPA_PATH
:/home/mike/.ladspa:/usr/local/lib/ladspa:/usr/lib/ladspa:/home/mike/.ladspa:
/usr/local/lib/ladspa:/usr/lib/ladspa
