Since some part of Andrew's patch were rejected, I applied them by
myself, and additionally patched as mentioned in the previous mail.

There are VM tuning parameters in /proc/sys/vm/vm_*_ratio files.
Lowering these values tend to bring better latency results.

Andrea Arcangeli's patchset. Found at ftp.kernel.org/people/andrea.

The kernel I've tested can be found at
        ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next/linux-2.4.13.SuSE-5.tar.bz2
and LL patches for it
        ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/suse-patches/2.4.13-suse-ll.dif.bz2

A newer version kernel is avialble at
        ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/ro/next/linux-2.4.14-SuSE-2.tar.bz2
although I have not tested this yet and am not sure LL patch above can
be applied.
