i think so. when you have the disks on separate ide channels, you
should see a greatly improved reading performance.
however, there might be a small overhead for writing.

if you're in for performance, i'd say get a decent backup medium and
go for striping (RAID 0).
one system disk, and a RAID0 pair for data.

ata/100 should be fine. so is ata/33, unless a single disk really
cam exceed this throughput rate, which i can't see at the moment.
(not talking about burst cache reads !)
