i've seen khronos's stuff. its a group made up of current bit players in the audio realm. some of them are movers and shakers for video, but with the growing advancement of linux in the animation/rendering arena, even there, the relevance of what these people have judged to be a good API is not completely obvious. if you find the link for the ex-SGI video API developer's comment on the dmSDK, i think you may also see some serious grounds for concern about using this API. i'm sorry i don't have it around right now. i agree with you that there might not be one API for everything. --p
