if you don't strictly need to link to a library to do that, not even to
access the buffer while it is recorded, is very simple:

 % sox -t ossdsp /dev/dsp myvoice.wav

from your favourite shell; man sox to discover the magics


about gstreamer into gnome2: wow people, gnome is really going to be
