and less scary, pointy-edged. Unless someone else gets to it first, of
course. These two aspects of the fansliders have always bothered me a
bit, but I still prefer them to knobs.

Yeah, new xorg stuff should make this very easy. Though i'm not sure
if demanding high xorg versions is perfect but i guess if people want
less pointy that's what they get.
Thorsten's not knobs are still the coolest thing since sliced bread.
