Subject: Permohonan Wawancara: Cracker di situs web RCI-News

> Pengelola Redhat Indonesia Club News Yth,
Saya membutuhkan
beberapa
> informasi tambahan dan konfirmasi Anda.
>
> 1. Kapan tepatnya cracking ini terjadi?

Kurang tahu, barangkali 1-2 hari terakhir.

Sebagaimana wajarnya 'hacker' melakukan pekerjaan rutinnya.
Rupanya 'kecoa'-nya ngerti banget produk Microsoft.

> 3. Keliatannya crakcer stormtrooper sangat mengenal situs web Anda. Apa
Anda
> dan sang cracker saling mengenal?

Sama sekali tidak, dari mana ?.

bantuan me-riset, sampai malu sama Mas MDamt. Terakhir (15 mei 99 ?) FP98

> lain?

Itu membuktikan bahwa sekuriti Microsoft FrontPage98 yang kebobolan.
Yang dibobol bukannya Linux koq.

> Saya sangat berharap Anda berkenan menjawab pertanyaan di atas.

* MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000 SECURITY TEST GOES AWRY
Recently, Microsoft put a Web server running Windows 2000 (Win2K) beta
and Internet Information Server (IIS) outside its firewalls and
challenged the public to hack it (http://www.windows2000test.com). The
company announcement described the move as a good method to test the
security of the new OS. Almost immediately, site visitors reported
problems with the home-page HTML and Javascript code, frequently
serious enough to prevent access.
Services on the site, such as a site guest book, a GET service, and
other functions, failed for many visitors. In addition, the server was
down several times, once for about 8 hours. The site's status logs,
which are posted, indicated that the outages were frequently unrelated
to security, although service attacks clearly strained the system.
The Linux community responded by announcing its own challenge,
exposing a PowerPC-native version of Linux to the hacker community
(http://crack.linuxppc.org/). After 7 days of continuous service, the
server was rebooted when it hung, a problem apparently connected to a
problem with RAM.
Microsoft has issued a statement explaining the goals and the
problems of the test site. To read the statement, go to

* STUDY REVEALS CORPORATE PLANS FOR WINDOWS 2000
International Data Corporation (IDC) has released the results of a
recent survey of corporate plans for OS deployment. Of the
organizations that indicated interest in Windows 2000 (Win2K), most
said they plan to wait from 6 to 18 months before beginning wide-scale
implementation of the OS. More than half of those respondents said that
the decision to delay deployment is the result of concerns about
stability. In the same study, 13 percent of the respondents said they
now use Linux. Two years ago, Linux use was too small to measure, and
an IDC spokesperson said the 1999 numbers show an amazing level of
growth. More information is available at http://www.idc.com.
