su error

Hi.

I had a problem and guess it might be interesting.

My machine runs on Linux. Today, when I tried to "su", it'd give a
segmentation fault if I entered the right password.
Same at the login prompt.
(Only for the root's account. All other accounts seemed to be fine)

But once I rebooted the machine, all was fine.

Any clues?
Did I miss out any information?
