The book I would recommend is the Wait Groups New C Primer Plus. Thats the
one I used and it was very helpful. In the few areas where they discussed
OS specific issues they covered both MS and UNIX. It also takes you from
simple C programming to some of the more advanced topics. I found it easy
to use for self-study.
