you get them ALL to be 4 bytes? here's what i get:
bigbird:~# ./test
Type int has a size of 4 bytes.
Type long has a size of 4 bytes.
Type float has a size of 4 bytes.
Type char has a size of 1 bytes.

now i always thought an int and a char were the same size, what with them being
the same thing really (c stores chars as their ascii values which are integers)
