I am all for a uniquely generated ID in combination with the certifyee's
name. What about a public and private ID in concert with the individual's
name? (see below)

As for the level of information that should be available to the general
public, test scores should be maintained by LPI as a pass/fail and the
actual test scores should only be given to the testee at the completion of
the test as a measure of their knowledge. I see no compelling reason for
test scores to be available to anyone at any point beyond the testee
receiving his/her score post-test. With few exceptions, employers really
only need to be able to verify that in fact the certified individual did
pass the required tests and therefore posses a given level of knowledge. We
may want to look at having a public ID and a private ID like CCIE's have.

Example:

Alex Esterly, LPIC1 #1234

Private ID: XXX####XX##

By calling Cisco, anyone can verify that a person is in fact a CCIE by
providing the individuals name and CCIE #. Yet, CCIE's have a private Cisco
ID number that is used by that individual to identify himself/herself to
Cisco. A public ID also adds accountability to the certified individual as
complaints about ethics could then be reported to LPI using this number to
identify an this individual in the unlikely event that someone behaves
inappropriately.
