Following the discussions of last week, the LPI steering committee has
accepted this policy concerning privacy and the use of database
information:

In the normal course of its operation, LPI will be required to obtain
information about people taking its certification exams. LPI will treat
such information received as confidential unless mutually agreed
otherwise, and will handle it with due care. Security issues are important
to us, both for the privacy of the individuals involved and the integrity
of the LPI program. It is the policy of LPI to respect the privacy of all
certification candidates.
LPI collects information about all individuals who register for one or
more certification exams ("registrees"). This information is used to keep
track of their certification status, to send them material or messages
related to LPI and certification, and to monitor and maintain the quality
and fairness of the exams and the certification program. Information
about individuals maintained by LPI includes demographic data and may
include, but will not be limited to:
unique confidential personal identifier (assigned by LPI)
unique public personal identifier (assigned by LPI)
name
gender
address
e-mail address
place and date of birth
citizenship
native language
exam dates, scores and results
certification status and date issued
information on career path
participation in services offered by LPI
To protect privacy, the database of personal information is accessible
only by designated LPI staff and contractors operating under a
non-disclosure agreement. People who are registered in the database
("registrees") have the right to review their records and request
correction of erroneous information. LPI may offer various services based
on this information for free or for a fee. Demographic data may be used
in aggregate for the purposes of research reports and other published
data. However, information on individual registrees will not be disclosed
unless that person has given permission.
An initial service LPI will be offering is a public register where the
certification status of an individual can be verified. The register will
be accessible through the ID for public use of the registree (which has to
be disclosed by the registree to the inquirer), and it will return the
certification status, date the certificate was granted, and the name of
the registree holding the ID and the certificate.
