I did it, and it works, just follow the instructions
on the DNS howto, and that�s all.

You can see if the interface is active using
ifconfig, if the ppp interface appears you�re
connected, anothe way is usinf tcpdump -i ppp0 and
looking if traffic appears.

Maybe you�re using the wrong file, some distributions
use different files at boot time, you can look for
common boot up scripts and check if those really
executes at boot time.
