I am new to the LINUX world. I have a Compaq Contura 430CS (486DX100)
laptop. I have a 3COM 3C589 PCMCIA NIC and a Motorola 28,8 PCMCIA
modem. I would love to install Linux onto the laptop but it has no
internal CD-ROM. Is it possible? At the moment I run Win95 in one
partition but have 450Mb unpartioned to install on. I use System
Commander to dual boot.

To help I have a desktop PC that runs NT, Win95 and Caldera Linux, again

using System Commander. This has an Intel10/100B NIC and has network
support under all OS's.

It would be great to crack this one as I would love to get to grips with

Linux. Unfortuatley my PC spends most of its time booted in Win95 or NT

as these are the two OS's I know and so to date Linux has been
neglected!!

I pray for a positive reply!!

Hagar

PS. I will need step by step help as I am very grey in this area.

PPS. Is there a good book that covers Linux kernel's for idiots.
