Ok, this is just my opinion:
I have used fvwm2 for many years, and it's stable, nice with millions of 
features... and a little hard to configure. ;-(
To get a real nice fvwm2 you will have to write a fvwm2rc file with at least
100 lines of configuration instructions. (Don't know if there is already a 
software solution for this)
Currently I am using kde (www.kde.org). It's pretty stable know, nice to 
configure..., I like it. It looks like CDE on Solaris. Unfort. kde is flamed
by the linux standartisation gremium because a major part of its code is non 
GPL. You can find different opinions on www.kde.org and www.redhat.com ( topic 
is qt thread)
