dd copies the ENTIRE partition bit by bit! it doesn�t matter if there are
long filenames or not (you can have a whole partition with crap on it
and it will be copied as is). but before doing the dd command mount
the source partition, cd to the mounted source and do a
"dd if=/dev/zero of=zerofile" to write zeros to the partition.
(it's useful if you had very much data on it but only a few files now...
remember: dd copies all - also this what you had removed!)
after that you can rm zerofile and start "dding" your partition.
