You can set up your syslog.conf to do that for you, it's been a while since
I have looked at the man pages, but here is what my syslog.conf looks like.
But I found all the info on setting this up in the man page syslog.conf (5).
# NOTE: YOU HAVE TO USE TABS HERE - NOT SPACES.
# I don't know why.

*.notice;mail.info /var/log/notice

*.crit /var/log/critical
kern.* /var/log/kernel
auth.warning /dev/console
auth.alert /dev/console
*.emerg *
*.alert /var/log/alerts
auth.* /var/log/auth
user.* /var/log/user
Hope this helps.

Hey fellow linuxHeads,
I was wondering if anybody had any information as to how i could get
/var/log/messages to cat to /dev/console when a remote connection has been
initiated.. and also is there a way to know if someones connected to your
box
before they try to login? and how would i know what ttyp* they are connected
to?
Id like to ttysnoop on someone trying to hack into my box ( for what reason
who
knows :)) ttysnoop is working.. but id like for linux to interuppt what im
doing and say 'excuse me, i need you to take a look at this.. ' :)
any info? im sure there is somewhere.. thanx guys ... and gals :)
