Hi overhere!
This is my first posting to this list
so 'Hello to everyone here!' Now I can start..
I recently installed Linux redhat 5.2
on a pentium 200MMX 64MB Ram that servers a rather
small network at school. It is not intended to
traffic multimedia or anything "bandwith hungry"
stuff so it's connected using normal coax cables.
The problem is that the linux box serves
incredibly well all the SMB shares, the Http Apache
is amazingly fast responding, BUT, Whenever I
try to telnet into it from another computer it
times out or I have to wait for more than one minute...
The same happens when I configured the SMTP and PO3
accounts on the win95 clients. The client machines
are using outlook express for mail.
What I don't get is how come it takes so long
connecting when I do the same to my ISP over phone
lines and I don't have to wait for more than 2 secs
for connection to be established.
Sorry if I was extremely long in my posting
but I wanted you to have a clear picture of my situation.
Many thanx in advance to you all!
And sorry again if this sounds like a newbie question...
* after all I am newbie! :-)
