This is an FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) and if you go off to somewhere
like sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO and check out the
Keyboard-and-Console-HOWTO you will find both the explaination of what is
happening and what to do about it.

RedHat 4.1?  Then you should also find this very HOWTO on your RedHat
cdrom, and perhaps it has even been installed onto your hard drive
somewhere in your /usr/doc/ directory.
