I'm told that there is a linux package called scilab written by a
university in France that is a matlab clone. I've never used it, so I
can't vouch for it. Try
http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/math/matrix/
I don't know whether sunsite has the most recent version. If you use it,
let me know how you like it.
