It's probably just the MTU setting. This setting determines the maximum
packet size which your system will transmit. The MRU setting determines
the maximum packet size which your system is willing to receive. You can
run into problems if your system sends out a packet which is larger than
some router along the way, or, perhaps, the target system itself, is not
willing to receive. Some routers support IP packet segmentation, which is
a way for a router to split up a large incoming packet into smaller pieces
if it knows that the next leg of the journey doesn't handle the larger
size, but not all do, and, even if for those which do, you can still run
into problems if another router beyond that one doesn't know how to
reassemble segmented packets. In other words, the most likely possibility
is that some router between you and Ultavista, or, perhaps, Ultavista
itself, has an MRU setting which is less than 4096. The best policy, I
think, is to keep your MTU setting at 1500, which is a very common value
and likely to be supported everywhere, and to set your MRU to a large
value so that your system will be very forgiving with respect to incoming
data.
