Linuxers,

Thank you for your time. I am trying to use the soundmodem raw.
(I have been researching a no-dedicated-hardware solution to non-interactive
remote control.) Ideally, I am looking for something of the form.

        cat datafile > /dev/soundmodem

What is the outgoing and incoming address of the soundmodem?

/dev/sm0, /dev/soundmodem does not exist.

What is the major and minor mode of the soundmodem?

I have searched the code without being able to identify even the use of
a major and minor mode. I have been able to find the major and minor
mode in the source code supporting the sound (/dev/audio) and ramdisk
(/dev/ram0).

I have read the documentation including AX25-HOWTO, HAM-HOWTO,
NET-2-HOWTO, soundmodem.txt, and much more.

        CPU: i586-133
        OS: linux-2.0.35
        Modules:sound (installed, removed)
                soundmodem (installed)
                hdlcdrv (installed)
                ax25 (installed)
                nr (installed, believed unecessary)
                rose (installed, believed unecessary)
                loop (installed, believed unecessary)

With the modules installed as above, cat /proc/net/dev reports
sm[0-3], but I still don't know how to read or write with the soundmodem.

        What am I missing?

                                                Thank you,
