Well ....
I don't know ether if I'm giving good advice here ... but:
I think if The dependency -library is not found (of cause wiht a
different Kernelversion) the new Dependency-library should be created the
way it fit's to the Kernel...
(0) Go to where we ned to act...
cd /lib/modules/
(1) Remove any preferences (soft link)
rm prefered
(2) Make a link for clear names ... i.e. :
ln -s 2.0.34-06 2.0.34
ln -s 2.0.35-02 2.0.35
(3) Gener the Moduledependencyes for the *RUNNING* kernel
depmod -a
(4) Get the dependency to be updated on every bootup :
* get the name of the right skript:
grep sysinit /etc/inittab | cut -f4 -d:
(in RH5.1 it is /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit)
* get a flaw repaird
therefore load /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit into an editor and search
for depmod.
You 'll find somthing like this :
------------------------------------------------
if [ -x /sbin/depmod -a -n "$USEMODULES" ]; then
# Get ready for kerneld if module support in the kernel
echo -n "Finding module dependencies... "
if [ -f /lib/modules/preferred ]; then
depmod -a preferred
else
# depmod -a preferred # <------------- flaw
depmod -a # <------------ More general,better
fi
echo "done"
fi
-------------------------------------------------
not to use preferred means the kernelversion is the thing all
depends on. that is what You want !
the idea with the /lib/modules/preferred is ok so far, but if
you wana switch kernelversion it definitly points to the
wrong subdirectory ....
if it points to the wrongone the dependency generated is crap
anyway.
(5) I hope it helps...
