Linux on laptop

Hello,

I am using since two year a Sager laptop with 2 * 4GB loaded with Linux 2.0.33
and RH 5.1

This machine works perfectly BUT:

the space touch is out of work
one of the touchpad buttons is broken
20 columns of the screen are out of order
and son on...

Now I am wondering to switch to another system: IBM 770X, Fujitsu, Sony, Dell
or..

Is someone having a good experience with one of these systems (X11
configuration)
