I am trying to setup my ESS1688 PnP BIOS soundcard.
I've compiled all sound support as modules in the
kernel. When I do a (disregarding /etc/conf.modules)
modprobe soundcore;
modprobe uart401; #Ess needs uart to work
modprobe sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5
I get this from dmesg...
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu
Savolainen 1993-1996
SB 3.01 detected OK (220)
ESS chip ES1688 detected (kernel 2.0 compatible)
sb: Interrupt test on IRQ5 failed - Probable IRQ
conflict
The irq, io, and dma values are definitly correct
because I have checked both in the BIOS setup and in
Windows95's device manager.
I decided that maybe it was a kernel probing problem
(my sound works fine under windows). BTW... after
loading sound with the modules as stated previously I
get the first second of sound then it repeats and
stalls. I decided to use pnpdump... but pnpdump didn't
find any boards. I tried
src/linux/Documentation/sound/ESS1868 and copied the
exact same thing in my isapnp.conf (to see maybe if it
would still work even though pnpdump didn't find any
boards). It failed at the (ISOLATE) line, so I
commented that out and the it finally said of failing
at the detection of ESS1688 (i did change ESS1668/-1
to ESS1688/-1 && ESS1688/1 && ESS1688/5, and it still
didn't work).
If anyone can help me with getting my sound (i really
hate booting to windows just to listen to mp3z)
I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, in advance, for anyhelp.
