What kernel? What distribution of Linux?
Now that that's said, try
modprobe ppa.0
-or- (assuming it's RedHat 6 with kernel 2.2.5 or so)
modprobe /lib/modules/2.2.5/scsi/ppa.o
If the modules.dep is set up correctly, it's just gonna work (or so it
does for me).
