Hi:
I installed SuSE Linux 6.1 with kernel 2.2.7 in my system a couple of weeks
ago. I had Windows 98 and Linux together. Everything was OK. Then I decided to
reformat and repartition my drive to install the BeOS. After repartitioning,
everything installed OK, but when I tried to compile my own kernel, I got the
following error message when booting up:
request_module[block-major-3]: Root fs not mounted
VFS: Cannot open root device 03:04
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:04
I have tried repartitioning again to make totally sure that my Linux partition
is below the 1024th cylinder. I have also created a boot disk and tried to
boot with it, but the problem still remains. I also tried copying the boot
files to my Windows partition and try to boot from there to no avail. The pair
of numbers (03:04) change depending on how my disk is partitioned and on which
partition I have installed Linux.
Some of my system specs are:
Pentium II 450 MHz
128 MB RAM
10.1GB Western Digital HDD (IDE)
Adaptec 2920 SCSI controller.
TEAC SCSI CD-ROM
TEAC SCSI CD Burner
Any comment or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
