Hmm...
i always use
route add -net NETWORK.ADDRESS.IP.NUMBER netmask MASK gw
GATEWAY.ADDRESS.IP.NUMBER
(ie. route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 127.0.0.1)
which never gave me a problem yet.
