Hi there. I've been running IP Masq. for over a year now and am coming to a point where I need to expand my local network. I'm currently running 2 machines: Linux w/kernel 2.2.12 and a Win98 box. I want to set up a 3rd machine running Linux on an old box I have lying around and make that the firewall/IPMASQ machine. Note that I'm using a cablemodem, and it and both machines are all connected to an 8-port hub. My question is this... As far as performance goes, would it be better to have 2 NICs in the firewall with 1 connected directly to the cablemodem and the other connected to the hub with the other 2 machines? Right now I'm running IP Aliasing so data from the Win98 box get routed through 192.168.1.1 then through the cablemodem IP address. If I have both machines running this way through the 3rd once it's set up, will I notice any degredation in performance? Thanks!
