I will be trying out the procedure again since you have shown faith
in the method
I shall write to you if I succeed. By default pl. continue to guide
me.
PS
Yes I tried your procedure with an eye on the chip nos. Hercules. Stingray
(something of the sorts) with an ICS5342 chip
on it worked. Monitor selected was 104B (predecessor
of 104S). the X Server propped up but it used an "Inbuilt 300x240 mode"
and thus I could only see a part of the screen. Also mode cycling with
Crtl . Alt . + Crtl . Alt . -- WAS NOT RESPONDING. System
was not hung as the rest of the stuff was fine. X was properly killed using
Crtl . Alt . BackSpc.
By the way are you receiving my mail with all the color highlighting
that I do??

Xconfigurator is pretty straight forward. Some suggestions you may try:
Try using different brand card that has chipset manufacturer the same as
yours. The chipset manufacturer is listed on right column and video
adapter is listed in left column in Xconfigurator.
Check Internet for Linux driver.
Try the xf86_svga or lower, ie vga (640X480 @ 60Hz) with lowest refresh
rate (50-70 vertical and 31.5 horizontal) and see if you can at least get
a low resolution X server up and running. If these fail, send me your card and monitor info and I will try and
help. I have learned a little about Linux in the past year, maybe it will
help.Ramana Tadepalli wrote:
