Personally, I think you're crazy to even consider doing this.
(Unless of course, you have a very good reason).

It's a massive build, massive.  I once attempted it way way back in
the 2.x days, and even then it was a monster to build... it gound my
machine almost to a halt and took all night before it finally failed
sometime the next morning.  Goodness knows what it's like to rebuild
now, even on a box like yours that has a little bit of grunt.

You are much better off grabbing a set of pre-compiled binaries and
installing that.  What you want are the latest packages for your
distribution... if it's something like redhat, debian, suse,
turbolinux or whatever, the 3.3.5 packages you need are already
available, and they go into (and out of) your system very easily and
painlessly.

Just my humble opinion...
