There's a good howto about this: http://jaeger.morpheus.net/linux/large-disk.html Anyway I have an old bios too, and it says that I have a 8.4G drive (actually it's 13,3), but my linux doesn't care about it, I can use the whole drive without any tricks (except one: the boot partition must be below the 1023th cylinder - 8.4G -).
