Make sure you do a custom install.  Make two partitions, one for  your swap -- double 
your RAM, or in this case, make it equivalent to your ram.  The second partition will 
be the / partition to maximize space.   When you say that you are connecting it to the 
other computer for the install, what kind of connection is it?  If you mean that you 
are connecting the computer via a network, you could do an http or ftp install by 
making the bootnet.img and installing it over the network.  If it is just the
hdd that you are putting in the second machine, you should be fine if you select the 
generic options for hardware, and I recommend making a bootdisk in case you have any 
problems wth LILO.

80 M for Linux is cutting it quite thin, but I think I have seen distributions 
specifically for the purpose of smaller hdd.  Good luck
