"make dep clean bzImage"
should solve this little problem.
i think, it is highly recommend to make the kernel
not too big, for this you should work with modules.
(read the kernel-howto)
try to build in only the important stuff, what you
really need.
after compiling the kernel, run:
"make modules; make modules_install"
