thanks ghane!

folks, there have been times when my machine shut down and refused to
boot up because it had become too hot. how do i know this for certain?
because (a) the area near smps was very hot (b) i kept trying to start
every twenty minutes and (c) it powered up only when the smps area was
sufficiently cool (sensed by my hands). so i know it's a temperature
problem. i also know (note prashast) that it's not related to the smps
fan, because i have sensed the draft with my hand. but i could be
wrong, maybe the smps fan works intermittently, and is on whenever i
stick my hand in front of it. so i assumed that it was CPU FAN
(i use those words wanting to sound like a techie:).. and ghane is
only partly right. my reluctance in the opening the box is not because
i don't want to interrupt uptime (it's being interrupted anyway). it's
because i am not comfortable tinkering. but maybe it's not that big a
deal.

i think the the additional fans from nehru place sounds like the most
promising solution. other solution is to buy a room fan, or cooler.

oh well--

ajit.
