Sir,
I am a avid reader of HT. I have been reading HT since ia was a
kid.
But have'nt written this mail in praise of HT. There was a
article on backpage first column of HT on friday 12th may titled
"Take a few precuations, make your computer virus-proof". It mentioned
"Linux operating system does not run on Intel processors, though it
offers limited software for the average user"
Either there is a misprint or the writer is not technically
sound enough to comment on what linux runs on or not. Linux is a free
software which has been designed on internet with contributions from
large group of people from various geographical locations. We at
linux-delhi <www.linux-delhi.org> promote the use of linux. Our group
has around 150+ members from various parts of India. We all mostly run
intel based machines ( actually linux was orignally designed for intel
based machine ).
I just want to emphasis on two points
1) Linux runs on Intel machines
2) Linux has got huge amount of software support(even better then
windows). You can visit www.freshmeat.net and see for yourself the
amount of software available for linux
This is very disturbing that newspaper of your repute could print a
article which is based on just authors dreams and nothing else
Yous etc.
